Working at height includes work where a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury. Before selecting training, identify the task, work location, equipment, supervision and rescue arrangements that apply to the work.
What to ask a training provider
- Does the course cover the equipment and work activities relevant to our team?
- How is practical capability checked?
- What previous experience or refresher training is expected?
- What needs to be managed by the employer or site in addition to the course?
Keep HSE guidance in view
HSE guidance says that work at height should be properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people. Training is one part of that wider system. Check the current guidance and your workplace procedures before the work begins.
